Child At Risk Response Team & Child Fatality Review Team
The CFRT is a diverse multidisciplinary group of professionals who come together to understand the multifaceted factors surrounding the death of a child and work to prevent future deaths.
This team is comprised of coroners/medical examiners, pediatricians, law enforcement, county health departments, CPS, OCFS, prosecution, and mental health professionals in Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties. Reviews and prevention activities are offered to residents of those three counties. Age and other requirements may apply.
What type of prevention activities does the group promote?
Currently, the team supports the following prevention activities:
- Bicycle helmet and general safety (under 18)
- Safe Sleep which includes educational materials and free Pack ‘n Plays. Baby web cams are also available in certain situations
- Water Safety educational materials and a limited supply of life vests (under 18)
- ATV Safety which includes an online educational course and free helmet and goggles upon completion (10-17)
- Home Safety which includes carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, furniture straps, baby gates, outlet covers (for households with children under 18)
- Child abuse prevention education
Supplies are limited and other safety initiatives may be addresses as needed by the community.
